a quest for sand dollars at our beach

Hello All

As usual I have forgotten and put the last

pictures first.....so I well explain.

Since the Storm 'Irene' was on her way we went down to the beach for a few walks today, when the tide went out we went hunting for sand dollars.

the first time around noon the tide was just starting to go out and the water was so calm.

the next time around 4 pm it was windy and not so calm but still warm and nice.

these are the bottoms of live sand dollars

these pictures are of live sand dollars we found on a sandbar aren't they magnificent!

you can see that the two bottom ones have moved a little

a closer look at them

Alan holding them all what fantastic colours they are

I see the sand dollar in the sand in the water

I reach for it

and there it is a nice clean sanddollar

This one i found in the sand on a sandbar

a wave washed over it and its out a bit more

I uncovered it, but since its cracked I'll leave it there

the rocks at low tide...we think they are lovely

Alan walking in the water along our lovely beach

this is the rain coming down when we came back up the cottage for a while

the rain in the water at the beach

storm clouds coming in this was at lunch time

the rock with the green hair in the water in the morning

the rock with the green hair out of the water at low tide at 4pm

here we are stand in the water under the storm clouds in the morning

the beginning of our walk with storm clouds looming that was at lunch time and its now 7:30 and still not much has happened. I think Irene is either not coming or is delayed.

We'll see tomorrow morning, perhaps she will arrive during the night and keep us awake.

All in all this was a lovely day with two great walks on the beach.

bye for now all

windy rainy day at woodislands pei

when we came home from work today we had to go see the waves..it was windy!

the life guards were in their little cabin, not on the beach....wonder why?

the beach was still quite pretty in the wind and rain

love this place

a day with the Willis Family and Friends

Patricia, Philip, Emily, Ashley, Sophie, Kayle & Chloe Angie, Albert and Chris came to visit us.
We had a great time at the beach with the kayaks and swimming.
We then came back up to the cottage and had some food. I put out olive oil/black current balsamic vinegar, humas, & tzatziki for starter and the girlies dug in, the adults didn't get much of it. Those girls have great appetites
pictured to the right are Emily and one of the twins Chloe or Kayle

one of the twins (same one) and Ashley

same twin, she couldn't get enough of the Tzatziki and bread

still going strong, the other twin has joined them at the table

Emily is enjoying the pork jerkie. what a funny girlie she is... All the girlies are beautiful and so sweet

A great day was had by all, we did have pork chops, boiled new potatoes, broccoli salad for supper.

a walk in the rain Aug 8th 2011

We decided to go for a walk in the rain and right beside the shed we foun a puddle to play in.

we thought we'd pose for a picture by the trees
oh so cute, aren't we?

A neat pattern that the water was making running down the beach

the water eroded a new stream running down the beach

Alan standing on the beach checking out the stream

here's a shot looking toward the cliff and the water running down the beach

it was a pleasant walk in the rain, except for the mosquitoes, but I guess they have to eat too

so back warm and dry at sand dollar cottage....I bid you goodnight

my day at home Aug2 2011

Today I stayed home to get more unpacking and organizing done. Yesterday Alan finished the acrchway were the wood stove used to be and we painted and he put up the shelves in the kitchen. Well it took me a while to get going because I was entertained by the hummingbirds at the feeder. They are such fun to watch, it looks like 2 females and they fight like crazy and buzz around.

some of you may wonder why we called our cottage Sand Dollar Cottage, well this picture shows you why. We collected these on 2 walks on the beach, in the water and on sandbars. We don't find this many every day, sometimes we don't find any.

the archway is finished now looks great aye?

I did finally get to work and unpacked 5 boxes,

2 milk crates and 2 big bins

The china cabinet is filled with our dishes and things waiting for our next big dinner.

the kitchen with the new shelves I love it!
So worth the wait. Yes!!!!

the dishes, bowls and jugs on the shelves

the glasses on the shelf ready to use

We are going to paint the heating duct to look like the limb of a tree. It should look really cool, if not we will paint it white-cottage white...

well that was my day at home sweet home.

ta ta for now from Sand Dollar Cottage

all the Best!

she is feeding and resting on the branches of the pine trees enjoy
